The Thor's Hammer front garden was designed to respond to the site's heritage, the brand's identity & concerns about the environment.
Project
Thor’s Hammer Front Garden
Griffith, Canberra
Year
2019
Synopsis
The site was previously the location of the TipTop Bread Factory.
Having just moved from the Old Canberra Brickworks, Thor’s Hammer was concerned with questions of heritage.
We established a brief which needed to respond to the old garden of the factory, while also supporting the contemporary image of Thor’s Hammer.
We aimed to address the brief by creating a large ‘front lawn’ in an ecologically sensitive way.
Approach
The large green expanse is predominantly Myoporum, while the fringes are filled with a rich collection of native grasses.
The key focus of the design was to create a guided experience for customers arriving at Thor’s Hammer. As they park on site, they’re guided up a ramp onto the sample boardwalk, surrounded by an array of native grassland textures.
Originally very small, the Eucalyptus gregsoniana are growing quickly. Soon to enclose the boardwalk as a tunnel of mallee Eucalypts.
